<p>Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Bender was born in 5656 (1896) in Poland.</p><p>As the most important disciple of Rabbi Avraham Bar Nachman Chazzan, which was the fourth generation of receiving Torah from Rabbi Nachman of Breslev, he was one of the great spiritual leaders of Breslev Chassidim from the beginning of the 20th century.</p><p>In his youth he became a follower of the Breslev Chassidic way and travelled to Uman at a very dangerous time in the midst of the First World War. Because of his work as aleader of Chassidey Breslev in Uman, he suffered tremendously from the communist regime. Along with his close friend Rabbi Eliyahu Chaim Rosin he was sentenced to death, and at the very niight before the execution they were saved in a most miraculous way. He and his family passed the Second World War in Russia and Tashkent and later he became a rabbi in The Jewish DP camps in Germany.</p><p> In 5709 (1949) he came to live in Israel and was the leader of Breslev Chassidism in Jerusalem for forty years. He passed away in 22 Tamuz 5749 (1989)</p><p>His lectures were published in the Diburey Emuna (Words of Faith).</p>
